5 facts that make dancers feel oppressed!
Hello! I am an OK and passionate dancer living in Tunisia (Africa) and what keeps me motivated about dance is all those dancers who are sharing their passion on YouTube like Willdabeast, Antoine Troupe, Cj Salvador, Parris Goebel and Tricia Miranda…!
I don’t know what’s happening within the LA dance community right now, but few days ago, 2 of my favorite dancers started talking about this YouTube dancer’s thing.
So I am going to send you a peaceful message and talk about 5 facts that make dancers like me feel oppressed!
Listen carefully and be thankful for the dance community you have whether it is a YouTube or a non-YouTube one.
I live in Tunisia, a really beautiful country like every other part of the world, before 2011, we didn’t have a YouTube access, after 2011’s revolution, my dancer’s life changed when I have started watching YouTube dance videos. I got inspired, I started following dancers and I was working on improving my dance skills by watching their videos. (I wasn’t taking dance classes by that time).
Now, I can tell you that those dancers are my family, I follow them every day, their success inspires me and empowers me to go ahead and follow my dream which is:
“Helping the future dance generation in Tunisia be less oppressed than me, more proud and more passionate about what they’re doing!”
Now, let me tell you about 5 facts that make one dancer feel oppressed especially in today’s social media world!
#1: The LA dance style is not welcomed within your dance community:
Only breaking, popping and locking are and unfortunately I can’t really feel those beats.
#2: You can’t attend international dance camps:
You watch people improving their dance skills and meeting their favorite dancers during dance camps, like the ones in USA, Italy, Poland, UK, Turkey and you can’t think about going there because you are still a student and you can’t afford visa and flight ticket’s fees.
Ps: Sponsors don’t really believe in ART to sponsor you.
#3: No Crowdfunding platform access:
You think about Crowdfunding to help you get the amount of money you need to attend one of those dance camps but you can’t start a crowdfunding campaign. In Tunisia, we don’t have international credit cards, you should be a businessman to have one so you can’t get that money.
#4: Again, international credit card issues:
You decide to improve your dance skills by watching dance tutorials at home, like Willdabeast’s ones or Tricia Miranda’s recent one of Missy Elliot’s WTF song.
Since you don’t have an international credit card, you won’t be able to pay those $4.99 fees.
DIE!
#5: Again and again international credit card issues:
You want to get a WOD hat or a Willdabeast Hoodie but, ok, you know the reason!
Too many obstacles right? But I will never stop dancing and what makes me feel optimistic is all those YouTube dance videos that show us how passionate our favorite dancers are. One day, we will make a change in our dance community in Tunisia.
Conclusion:
You are lucky dancers!
Enjoy what you have, be proud of it!
Please, never stop sharing your passion on YouTube because it is drawing smiles on many dancers’ faces every day.
PS: I love you Antoine Troupe! Willdabeast you are an angle and one day I am going to attend Buildabeast dance experience, promise! Parris Goebel you empower me! Cj. Salvador STOP wearing glasses while dancing, it’s dangerous!
From Tunisia with love!
I am an OK and passionate dancer and this is how I dance (Not an HD dance video haha):
